A Jazz Quartet in IKEA Place
Symfonisk is a range of WiFi speakers IKEA has produced in collaboration with Sonos combining Sonos’ expertise in sound and technology with IKEA’s knowledge of home furnishings.
SPACE10 is a Copenhagen based, research and design lab supported by and entirely dedicated to IKEA and are the creators of IKEA Place, perhaps the most popular AR app on iTunes.
You can then of course understand our excitement when they contacted us to help them create an added layer of magic for the launch of Symfonisk within the IKEA Place app.
A table lamp that is also a speaker, Symfonisk lets you enjoy clear, richly-detailed sound that fills the room with music, so what better way to showcase this than create an animated jazz quartet and hide it inside the product for people to discover.
The mechanic is simple; as soon as users place the product in their own space in augmented reality through the Place app, music can be heard coming from inside the speaker. Then as the user approaches the product we started revealing its interior that carried within its base a stage with our band in full swing playing an original jazz tune.
Our primary goal was twofold. From one perspective we wanted to showcase the sound purity of Synfonisk, utilising the different instruments in a jazz quartet, while at the same time intriguing our audience to view and explore the product up close, giving them the opportunity to also view the quality design and built of the new IKEA - Sonos WiFi, table lamp speaker.
